Instruction

Philip’s classes focus on a traditional understanding of the craft of drawing and painting. By systematically breaking down complex topics to their most simple components, students can achieve a thorough understanding of the principles required to create convincing illusions in their drawings and paintings. Philip’s classes are aimed at teens and adults of all skill levels, and apply to all two dimensional mediums. By learning to see and draw, we can apply these principles to any medium.

Figure Drawing and Painting Open Studios

The Atwood Atelier offers 4 days/week of open studio figure drawing and painting sessions. Although these sessions are uninstructed, Philip and other moderators will often give advice upon request during the breaks.

Workshops

The Atwood Atelier offers workshops taught by both local and visiting instructors, focusing on a variety of mediums and subject matter.

Drawing and Painting Program

The Drawing and Painting Program at Atwood Atelier is intended for people of all skill levels, regardless of the student’s goals or level of commitment. The course begins with exercises designed to introduce (or reinforce) the foundational principles of drawing. Students are then offered the option to continue with the program long term, progressing to drawing from life using still lifes, eventually moving into oil paint in black and white and then in color.
